The European Union Representative to Somalia Georges-Marc André has condemned the behavior of some Somali parliamentarians during Monday's disagreement over the approval process for the new Somali cabinet.
“Having seen some MPs taking sides in a violent way against the Speaker is something we cannot accept,” in an exclusive with VOA Somali Service.
The European Union is one of the biggest providers of financial support to the Transitional Federal Institutions of Somalia including the Parliament. Mr. Georges Andre said the international community currently has an envelope of 70 million dollars open to support federal institutions, building of administrations and judiciary.
He warned that the EU will revisit its approach if the money is spent without any result.
The mandate for the Transitional Federal Institutions expires in August 2011. Mr. Georges Andre said the EU will not accept extension of the status quo beyond 2011. He urged the institutions to adopt a constitution and restore security. You can listen to the entire English interview with Harun maruf..
