UN Special Envoy for Somalia, Augustine Mahiga, believes that this meeting will pave the way for a second conference in Mogadishu which the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) plans to attend.
Participants from Puntland, Galmudug, Ahlu-sunna Group, and Members of Parliament are attending this consultative meeting in Nairobi today. The cabinet, however, has criticized the members of Parliament in attendance saying that the MPs are not, in fact, appropriately representing the Somali government and its citizens.
The term of the transitional government is set to expire in August, thus discussion of Somalia’s future is of utmost importance.
