The United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia Augustine Mahiga urged the Somali leaders to resolve their differences. In an exclusive interview with VOA Somali Service, Ambassador Mahiga who is in New York said: “It is my conviction that before we can even define the urgent tasks and the program of action there has to be unity of purpose and understanding within the government.”
On his visit to Eritrea two weeks ago, he said: “They [Eritrea] expressed an interest and willingness and measure of commitment to help resolve the problem of Somalia. They want to be promised that it will be constructive and helpful.”
He said Eritrea looks forward to the UN being an honest broker and creating
a favorable environment where there will be an inclusive political process.
