Somali Pirates ‘Release’ Greek Ship


A Somali pirate who requested anonymity told VOA Somali Service that they have released a Greek-owned bulk carrier named MV Filitsa this evening

According to this pirate, $3.5 million dollars was paid by the ship owners as a ransom to secure the release of the carrier. The ship has reportedly departed Harardhere town coastal area on Monday evening.

MV Filitsa is believed to be Marshall Island flagged and was seized by pirates in November last year as it was heading to South Africa.

All 22 crew members- three Greek, and 19 Filipinos were released all together, according to this anonymous Somali pirate.
