The Somali government radio said one of their journalists has been killed in Mogadishu on Tuesday evening.
Sheikh Nur Mohamed Abkay, a foreign news writer, has been shot three times to the head in Wardhigley district according to Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adaala, an editor at the government-owned radio.
Al-Shabab has been accused of being behind the killing. Al-Adaala told VOA Somali Service that Mr. Abkay was arrested in Bakara market this afternoon by Al-Shabab officials. He said local residents and witnesses at the scene confirmed the killing. Al-Shabab officials were not available for comment.
Mr. Abkay, a veteran journalist in his 60s worked for the government radio but his family lived in Al-Shabab held territory in Mogadishu.
